Bearings Privacy Policy

Last updated: [Octoberber, 2026]

Your privacy matters to us. This privacy policy explains how the Bearings app handles your information.

Bearings is designed with your privacy in mind. We do not currently collect any personal or usage data, and we will never sell your information. If that ever changes, we will notify you in the app before any collection begins and give you the option to opt out. Any data we collect would be used solely to improve the app experience for all users.

Information We Collect and Store

Bearings does not collect personal information such as your name, email address, or location. The only data Bearings stores is the information you create within the app:

  • Tasks you log as completed

  • Tasks you choose to hide

  • Custom tasks you create yourself

  • Achievements and milestones you earn

  • Your app preferences (such as theme, light/dark mode, and haptic settings)

This information is stored locally on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account. It is never transmitted to us or any third party.

Analytics — Not Currently Collected

As of this writing, Bearings does not collect any usage data, analytics, or information about how you use the app.

We reserve the right to introduce anonymized usage analytics in the future, to help us understand which features are most valuable and to improve the app.

If we do, the data would be limited to things like:

  • Which features are used most and least frequently

  • Which built in tasks are logged most often or most commonly hidden

  • General app performance and crash reports

  • Aggregate patterns in how users interact with categories

This would never include your name, email address, location, or any other personally identifiable information — only anonymized, aggregated patterns across all users, never individual behavior.

If we introduce analytics, we will:

  • Update this policy and notify users within the app before collection begins

  • Provide a clear, accessible option to opt out at any time

  • Never use this data to target you with advertising or share it with third parties for commercial purposes

iCloud Sync

If you are signed into iCloud on your device, Bearings may use Apple's CloudKit service to sync your data across your personal devices. This means your task history and preferences may be stored in your personal iCloud account.

This data is:

  • Stored in your own private iCloud account

  • Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy

  • Never accessible to us

  • Only synced between devices signed into your personal Apple ID

You can disable iCloud sync at any time through your device's Settings app.

Apple Device Analytics

If you have enabled "Share iPhone Analytics" in your device's Settings, Apple may independently collect crash and usage data as part of iOS itself. This is governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not ours, and is not something Bearings controls, initiates, or has access to.

Data Storage

All app data is stored either:

  • Locally on your device, or

  • In your personal iCloud account (if iCloud sync is enabled)

We do not operate any servers or databases that store your information.

Important Note About Data Loss

If you choose not to enable iCloud sync, your data is stored on your device only. This means:

  • If you delete the Bearings app, its data (your task history, achievements, and preferences) is permanently deleted from your device

  • If you replace or reset your device, your data may be restored only if you have a device backup that includes it (such as an iCloud Backup or a computer backup)

  • We are unable to recover lost data under any circumstances

To protect your data, we recommend enabling iCloud sync in your device settings.

Cookies & Tracking

Cookies and similar web-based tracking technologies do not apply to Bearings, as it is a native iOS application rather than a website.

Third Party Services

We do not sell your personal information. We have never sold, and will never sell, user data to any third party.

Bearings does not integrate with third-party advertising or tracking services, and does not share your data with data brokers or marketing services.

The following third-party service may be used:

  • Apple CloudKit — for optional iCloud sync, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy

  • For more information on Apple's Privacy Policy, visit apple.com/legal/privacy

If we introduce analytics tools in the future, any tools selected will be chosen specifically for their privacy-first approach, and will not collect personally identifiable information.

Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as you use the app. If you delete the app and have not enabled iCloud sync, your data is permanently deleted from your device at that time. If iCloud sync is enabled, your data remains in your iCloud account until you delete it there directly.

Your Rights and Choices

You have control over your data at all times:

  • Access — your data is visible to you directly within the app

  • Delete — delete individual tasks, or delete the app entirely to remove all local data

  • Disable iCloud sync — at any time, through your device's iCloud settings

  • Opt out of future analytics — should we ever introduce anonymized analytics, an opt-out option will always be available within the app

These principles apply to all users regardless of location, consistent with data protection standards such as GDPR and CCPA, even where not legally required for our current scope.

Children's Privacy

Bearings is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any information from children or anyone else. In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated as the app evolves. If we make a material change — particularly any change to what data we collect or how it's used — we will notify users within the app and update the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the app after such notice constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

We are committed to transparency and will never make a significant change to our data practices without informing you first.
